CLAIR
A future-oriented sustainable local and focused cooling solution.
Tailored to users
Clair is my final bachelor project, which I worked on for the client, Auping. Through conducting extensive context and user-research, I developed a localised and focused cooling system featuring two remote-controlled fans. Following an iterative process, I developed a functioning prototype which I user tested with.

A sustainable cooling blanket
Dutch summers are becoming hotter due to climate change, especially among the elderly this can affect sleep. Clair offers a sustainable alternative for inefficient common used cooling methods —a cooling blanket system that provides localised and focused cooling. The system is seamlessly integrated into a blanket, tailored to the user’s routine.
Exploring through prototyping
With the information I gathered from my research, I used exploratory prototyping and iterative prototyping techniques to quickly try out my ideas and later sort them out.
The Clair system integrated in a small scale smart home.
First ideas included cooling pillows through which air can flow.
A functioning prototype
The final prototype incorporated material expertise from Auping with technology such as fans that attach magnetically to the blanket.
