Through the lens of makers (or users)
An innovative and remote UX research method.
Unlocking more in-depth insights in the experience of users
I’m very passionate about using research in design processes to immerse myself in the user’s perspective to achieve a human-centered design approach. I focused my master thesis on research methods which help to better understand the users’ needs and wishes.

What is PDPE?
Traditionally used interviews and surveys often seem to bring about only superficial information. During my work as a researcher, I learned about participant-driven photo elicitation (PDPE), which uses participant-taken photos in interviews to gain deeper insights in their experiences.
PDPE in design
For my master thesis, I researched applying PDPE in a remote setting. I found that it is a a highly effective method to use in design. I’m excited to apply and share this method with others in my future design work.

Using PDPE in online situations
I conducted a study using PDPE in a remote setting using Miro for the participant’s photographs and video calling for the interviews. I collected photographs, audio and video data. I analysed the data using a grounded theory approach (in design this is similar to affinity mapping).
